My son

Our 18 yr old son just told us he has been depressed for eight years. We knew he was having trouble with girls but he seemed to be dealing well. He is so smart. Excellent grades just no friends. My heart is broken. We thought we had done all that we could to give him everything he needed. Now he's going off to college next fall and I don't know how to deal with this. Me and his Daddy had our own depression but just prayed he would not. But here we are!!!

It would have been ideal to get him some counseling 8 years ago, but since you didn't and he is an adult now... urge him to seek professional help for himself.

Now that he is an adult, he can seek professional help for himself. If you and his father have not sought help or treatment for your own depression, then you haven't been a good role-model. It's not too late to start.
