My son wants to go to prom tonight! Do I let him go since it is only his junior year? His new private school lets every student come to prom even if they aren't a senior and they don't have to be invited by a senior. He only wants to go cause he has a girlfriend or I know he wouldn't want to go.... He is 17 years old I had him when I was 17.... Its just me and my son so I don't have anyone else to ask. I don't want him to cause it doesn't follow "tradition" as I was raised and taught. What do I do?

Our schools have Junior/Senior prom. In most cases, students are allowed to invite students from other schools. And, in some cases, guests do not have to be Jr/Sr. Let him go. The "tradition" varies by school district. Deviating from the way you were 'raised and taught' about prom traditions is not likely to affect him in any negative way.

If the school lets all the students go why would you deny him that? Sounds cruel and pointless to me. I hope you let him go.

I hope you let him go, many schools actually have junior and senior proms. My school had a combo one because it wasn't big enough to do two separate ones.

You would deny your child the meat and gravy of highschool just because of YOUR poor choices at his age? You should have confidence that you raised him to be better.

Who cares about tradition with school. Yes, I hope you let him go.
