My son does not like to go to sleep. He is 2 months old and he literally cries himself hysterically to sleep. Also what is a good sleeping pattern for day time. Not sure how long they need to sleep during the day. For his night sleeps he is a saint, but to get him to sleep is the frustration. Please help if you can!

Rock him and read to him, (Never too young) get him relaxed starting about an hour before bedtime. Be calm and speak or sing to him. I breastfed, but a bottle is fine, clean is gums afterwards though

Sleep patterns vary depending on the child. Some will easily fall into a 1-3 hour napping pattern 2-3 times/day. Other babies will 'cat nap' for 20ish minutes at a time throughout the day. Then when you think you've got them figured out... they switch it up on you. It's ALL normal cuz babies aren't 'normal' creatures. ;)

I do have to question why he is being left to cry himself to sleep though... or are you holding him and he still screams hysterically to sleep? All of my babies were nursed to sleep at that age... and yes, I had at least one each of the two sleeping 'types' that I mentioned above. At 2 months old I would be nursing, bottle feeding, rocking, etc... to sleep... even if I weren't anti-CIO.

Hang in there! Newborns are 'typically' a nightmare, but they don't stay newborns forever.
