One of my nephews was allowed not to talk.....let me explain...although he could talk he mostly pointed and grunted and was given what he wanted. each child is different and although Apraxia may be a factor I would encourage you to make him talk. if you truly believe him capable than say words and make him at least try before he gets the result....if you believe him incapable of speech (you know him better than anyone) then i would encourage you to teach him sign. although you may be able to understand what he wants he will need a way to speak to others. one of my friends, when i was growing up had a little brother who they did not think would ever speak. they taught him sign. he did eventually speak but sign at least gave others a way to understand until he did. Good luck and God bless!

Sorry, some of my post was deleted. My son turns 3 May 26 and he does not talk at all. He can say dada, eat, bye bye..but he doesnt. He is in speech therapy and his pathologist said he has Apraxia, but we have not gotten much results verbally from his therapy.
