My son is 14, a freshman in high school. He was diagnosed with ADHD in kindergarten and has been taking medication since 2nd grade. Since the beginning of the school year, he has not been invited to a few social events. A boy had a Halloween party and my son wasn't invited. This was a boy who attended my son's Bar Mitzvah. We found out recently a girl my son thought was his friend also did not invite him to a party. Now these kids are not what you would call "cool" or "popular". That is not important. But, they are a group of smart, somewhat geeky kids whom my son thought were his friends. He is finding out that they don't want him at their social events. It is breaking my heart and making him angry. We know that he can be annoying because of his lack of impulse control and social skills. He is such a sweet, funny and smart kid, but others can't see that because he pushes people away with his lack of social skills. I know what the problem is, but I want a solution. My husband thinks a class of some kind could help him with learning how to interact with kids better. I live in Bergen County, NJ. Does anyone know of a place that could help.
