My 8 yr old son's reading a comprehension is low, he really doesn't remember what he did earlier the same day. Despite all my efforts, he's failing in most classes. He has the aptitude to learn, however he has a difficult time demonstrating this in the traditional Common Core curriculum settings

Have they checked him for a processing disorder? And have you had his hearing checked recently?

Yes he's had a full evaluation from a professional psychologist for ADHD, Dyslexia and others and there has been no report of a learning disability.

An 8 yo should be able to articulate in detail what happens over the course of the day. has he had an evaluation for any learning challenges?

You are calling it bologna? If his testing came back normal then I am not sure what you are asking us to do about it. Maybe he has a learning disability or issue that needs to be taken care of via therapy to help him learn to recall short term memory. I have worked with children with special needs for over 10 years and I have seen a lot of different things that they have issues with. My son has a learning disability and he had some therapy in school and an IEP and was in resource classes. His comprehension as just so that he did not get a lot of things the others did for a long portion of the school year but he did eventually get it and he graduated high school with above a 3.0. But constant memory loss could still mean something needs to be checked or done. I was trying to help.

Baloney it is. No I haven't taken him to his medical doctor for evaluation. Not sure what evaluation she would do. I came to this conclusion from my personal experience with him and from research. I did have him tested by a psychologist and all results came back normal. He's having comprehension problems that I believe is related to his lack of short term memory.

Have you talked to his doctor about his short term memory losses? It sounds like it is something that needs to be evaluated and the school should be involved in this. This Common Core is a bunch of baloney in my eyes. My son had to deal with it for just his junior and senior years of school. He also had comprehension issues but he did not have the short term memory issues.
