The first thing that needs to be done is that you need to give your son the tools to handle these types of people, which is difficult with any child.

Positive reinforcement is a good start. And, you need to be proactive with the school, in bringing things to their attention. My kids were bullied, too. And, they handled it well. I wouldn't necessarily have chosen their methods, but I guess hearing from your victim that they are sorry that you have such a horrible life really opens their eyes sometimes.

To be quite honest, I'm not sure I did any one thing to give them the self confidence that they needed to be able to handle the situation on their own, but we've always been very involved with them, and always made sure to point out appropriateness of situations and solutions, etc.

but, the only way that things are going to change is by you and your son taking some action. Start with documenting incidents, etc. Bring it to the attention of the adults at school, the teachers, principal, counselors, school nurse, and even the custodian. You'd be amazed at the influence a custodian has over some kids! And, if your actions are not reducing the occurrences, then you need to take it higher. Or consider contacting the parents of the other kids to meet in a neutral setting for a sit down solution time.
