My son's ear, nose and throat Dr. wont's to take his adenoids out b/c he has deviatedseptum and he said that his adenoids were large and it would help him breath better if were took them out. He is only 3 years old and it is scary to put him through this if it isn't going to work. I was wondering if anyone has had this done and if so what was the outcome of it? Thanks

I think it wouldn't hurt to get a second doctor's opinion! to see @ least. It is & can be a scary thing & any surgery has some risk so it doesn't hurt to do some home work 1st!;) then do what is best of course! ;) Love in Christ ~Kellie~

I'm a therapist and I worked with a lil guy that had his taken out......after they were done he could breath so well and he slept through the night!!  His mom was thrilled because he was almost 3 and he had apnea from large adenoids.

yes, my daughter was about that age when she had her adenoids out. Hers were very large and she was always sick. It was definately worth it. She hardly ever gets sick compared to my other children and myself since then and she is now 13.

My son had two sets of tubes in his ears before he was 4 years old. He had recuriing ear infections and had some hearing lose. When he had the second set of tubes put in they recommended that he get he adnoids removed also because they were so large. We had them removed and a second set of tubes put in his ears and the child has not had any more problems with his ears since then. He is now eight and just lost one of the tubes from the second set.

Jennifer,

I have 2 kids and both of them had this done.  My daughter was 3 and my son was 13months.  I  also had their tonsil out at the same time.  They usually go hand in hand with infections and bacteria.  The recovery was ok.  But please remember that day 4 and 5 are worse than the others.  Most dr. wont tell you that.   I know it is very scary, but it is so worth it.  You will have less infections and less breathing probs.  Hope everything works out GREAT!!!

Jennifer, my baby had his taken out when he was 2 1/2 years and it was the best decision I could have made. He had both his adenoids and tonsils removed and his breathing improved dramatically, especially at night. He used to snore and had some episodes of sleep apnea; it was scary at night. By your son being so young, he should recover and rebound quickly. The only slight set back we had due to the additional tonsilectomy, was an extra night in the hospital. They would not release him until he was consuming fluids well and voiding sufficiently as a precaution. He is now 3 and doing very well. The decision is yours and I pray that everything works out well for you and your baby.

No worries! It is an easy procedure. My son had his removed at the same time they put in his 2nd set of tubes. He was having severe constant ear infections and all this was supposed to help with that. It did for awhile, but then he needed a 3rd set of tubes. Then he needed his tonsils removed. Now that he has had all that removed he never gets an ear infection anymore, nor does he get strep throat like he used to. Also, as others had mentioned he is sleeping more soundly and no longer snores. It took us a while to get where we are at now, but it was all worth it. The time, energy, and worrying that went with ear infections and strep throat was worth my nervousness and uneasiness that came with the procedures.

My daughter had hers removed this past summer. We made it "An adventure" we went to the movie store and rented "LOTS" of movies...( her fav thing is movies) and I took our portable DVD player with head phones (just her size) and when she came out we just put on some movies and waited for the Dr. to give us the ok to go home. It was pretty uneventfull but yes I was scared at first too. But it was the best thing we could have done she is much healthier now!! Good Luck!!

Hi Jennifer my son had this done when he was 3, whilst having his gromits put in, after countless ear infections. I must say that having this done has improved his speech greatly, and he's never had another ear infection xx

I would say do it now..my boyfriends son is 11 and just had his taken out last week.  They said that his were so enlarged that they could only get 80% of them out so he will probably have to go back in a couple of years to get the rest.  So, do it now before it's harder on him later and so that he only has to go through it once.  Good luck and you'll be happy that you did..along with your son!!

My son had his removed at 2.They were very enlarged which caused him to have difficulty breathing..He and family can now sleep peacefully w/out the loud snoring..No need to be alarmed but I couldn't sleep the first night of his surgery because he was purring like a cat..Good luck..

My son had his out when he was two and a half (back in April).  His were large and causing ear infections.  They did it while they put in his 2nd set of tubes.  He did very well and was up playing the next day.  It's not for the same reasons but the procedure was pretty simple and only took about half an hour.  Hope this helps!
