My son is 3 years old and flat out refuses to potty train. He shows no interest in going to the bathroom on the toilet and tells me no when I ask him to go potty on the toilet. The cheerios trick doesn't work with him and peeing on trees isn't working either. Any other ideas that could help me?

Do you have potty books? Get stickers and let him decorate his own potty! Which the Cheerios to jelly beans! And whatever you do DON'T PUSH IT! The more desperate you seem the more he will resist!
He won't go to college in diapers, I promise! :-)

Sara, my brother-in-law was the same way... refusing to do anything in the potty. My MiL tells me the way he finally got trained was peer pressure:
She had taken him to a drop-in day care for a few hours so she can get some work done. Mind you, this was mid- to late-1980s. While there, this facility did not change diapers; however, she decided that he could go three hours without worrying about his diaper (he was over 3, BTW). When she picked him up, he was pissed. She asked why and his response was "All of the girls got to go to the pink door; and all of the boys got to go to the blue door. I had to stay outside by myself." She knew that those doors were the restrooms. And he felt like he was being left out of something great. From that point on, he was potty trained.
So maybe take him somewhere with kids who are potty trained and let him see how great they have it when they pee in the potty. Just a thought. :-) Good luck! My son will be 3 in July - no real interest in the potty yet. Soon, we hope!!
