No-one was being rude, Priyanka. They were merely stating their opinions (that you asked for). Just because they had an opinion you don't agree with doesn't make it rude.

Priyanka,

Most of the Indian students that i work with (that have babies) have simply trimmed their hair for Mundan, unless the baby is a bit older. And, most have left the Mundan until they are 9-10 months old.

Granted, that's just the dozen or so students that I work with, and not the whole population of India, but I would say not to completely shave his head at that young of an age. Their scalp is so sensitive that you wouldn't want to do any inadvertent damage.

Krista: Not necessarily so. Why, when you shave the hair on your legs and arms, does it come back thicker and darker? Why, when you shave a moustache or beard, does it come back thicker and bushier?

My brother and I have kids the same age. Each summer I put my kids under the clippers for a shave, he didn't. My kids hair is thicker and bushier than his kids, and yet his spouse has curly, thick, wonderful hair, while he, myself, and my spouse have thin, mousey hair.

So, yes, to an extent, it actually is true.

But, that's not the point of this young lady's question.

We judged because you didn't give us enough information to go on.... and shaving a 5 month old baby's head sounds completely insane to me. I like Shawnn's answer though. Much more diplomatic and respectful. :)

None of us knew beforehand that you plan to shave his head for a ceremony. I know I just thought, you were going to just because. Now that I know the whole story, and maybe you would have gotten different responses if you had put that information up in the first place. I really don't know. Five months is a little too small, but I would think easier to pin down to do it. If you wait until he's bigger, he'll be harder to control. Personally, my opinion would be skip it all together but that's just my opinion. You can ask for our opinions/advice on here but ultimately, it's your decision.

Bt there is a ritual in India which is called (Mundan- first hair cutting ceremony which is done within first year of birth) n they say when u shave head the hair grow thicker n beautiful. My thoughts are if you are saying kindly suggest then you are thinking it is wrong.

Why? Why? Why would you do that to a baby? I kindly suggest you leave his hair be for now.

I second Little Miss! Why would you want to shave his head?? You're lucky that your baby has some hair! My son is 11 month old and still bald with little to no peach fuzz.

Why would you shave his head?? He is only 5 months old. Just let him be. Baby hair is so sweet and fluffy.
