I have a 6 year old son who is being tested for ADHD because of some issues he's having attending/focusing at school. We've tried behavior plans, reward and punishment systems, daily check-ins and a closely monitored journal to keep home and school closely connected. He is very impulsive and at times moody. He resists any change in his routine or current state of being. I am wondering what other moms think about medication and/or other forms of treatment. Nothing has been decided, but as a teacher, I know he is and don't doubt he'll be diagnosed with ADD or ADHD.

I am currently doing this as well for my son, but he's younger than yours. Thankfully the state helped us get started with the process. I don't know what your test process is that you are doing, but this is what I recommend from my experience. I would recommend going to a Developmental Pediatrician to get a Dr's point of view. Developmental Pediatricians are different than regular pediatricians because they know the differences between Autism and ADHD and ADD. They can request bloodwork and psychological tests that the regular pediatricians can't do. Be aware though that the tests are expensive if your insurance doesn't cover them. By getting a diagnosis and taking it to the school district, your child is then eligible for services through them and possibly through your state. It's not an easy process and medication isn't always the answer when your child is so young like yours. Most good doctors recommend therapy first and you should find a support group. I wish you the best.

Keep an open mind, he may suffer from something else, like a mild form of Autism. Either way, you'll get it figured out! Good luck to you.
