My son Aiden is 3 years old and will be turning four soon and does not sleeping in his own bed. I wake up in the middle of the night every night to see that he has climbed into my bed. I always put him back in his own bed, but when I wake up in the morning he is back in my bed. His father and I are separated and I've discussed this with him but he just gives in and lets him sleep with him at night. How do I break him of this habit before he starts preschool?

Sleeping through the night would certainly be nice. My son was doing that at 2, but as far as sleeping in his OWN bed w/out me ever in it w/ him... he didn't start doing that til he was 8 (in March). From the ages of 6-8 our beds weren't together, but I was still laying in HIS bed w/ him every night until he fell asleep.

Your son will reach this stage in his own time. You can certainly try and encourage it if you wish, but honestly... if you do not wake up when he comes IN to your bed and he is not awake when you notice him in your bed.... why don't you let both of you sleep?

It's ok that he is sleeping with you as long as you are fine with it. He obviously finds comfort sleeping with momma. He is just a little boy. He will eventually grow out of it, trust me he won't be 15 and still wanting to be in the same room as you. Enjoy it while it lasts.

My daughter is 6 and still climbs into our bed.

I have no issue with him wanting to lay with me at night, but all in the same breath I want him to be comfortable in his own bed and be able to sleep through the night.

There isn't anything wrong w/ him sleeping w/ either of you. If you don't want him in your bed you're just going to have to keep taking him back to his bed. My son was in or next to my bed almost every night for 6 years and I honestly don't regret any of it.
