MY Son keeps running out of school hes 11
Hello Samantha it seems to me and i do agree with some of the other moms there has to something else going on with him in school.I have a girlfriend that her son last year at 10 did not want to go to school or he kept skipping school. The reason was because he was getting bullied in school every day. So my friend put him her son in another school and he is doing much better .I would also call the school and also if possible sit down with the school officals and your son to find out whats going on .Is your son school aware that walk out of school just curious

Colleen, it is very unfair to place the blame on the school. It isn't like a teacher can physically restrain a child from leaving the school grounds or leaving class. All they can do is call home and let the parent know and implement consequences to make up the time.
Samantha, in my experience, when a child starts to truant, it is usually a sign of other things that are going on. It could be that he is having issues with a particular teacher, it could be that he is being bullied, it could be any number of things. But children don't truant for no reason. In no way is truancy okay, and there does need to be a consequence, but rather than explanations from schools and punishing, you need to get to the root of the ACTUAL problem. The truancy isn't the problem in itself, it is the resulting behaviour. Just punishing for the behaviour is not going to work unless you know what caused it in the first place.

Hello Samantha, the first thing I'd do is find out why he's able to leave the school. At our school, the children can't even walk the hallways without permission. I'd be furious if my child left the school. Once they are dropped off, you assume that the school is watching them and keeping them safe. You should contact the school and insist on an explanation. Then of course, I'd find out why your son's is doing this and why he thinks that is acceptable behavior. My child would be punished for a long time. All children should understand that we think they're in school and if they're not in school and something happens, we cannot help them because we don't know where they are. Good luck!
