My son puts his hand in his mouth which causes him to gag

[deleted account] ( 8 moms have responded )

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with teething (putting his hand in his mouth ) so he accidently sticks his fingures too far and LOOK OUT! We put him on pedialite (however its spelled) because now it spews out the other end. I'm getting worried that there is something else wrong.

My son's almost one and he's been doing the same thing lately! He hasn't puked yet, but he does gag and choke himself. I try to ignore it, I figure it's just teething. He's fine otherwise.

Lol, my son used to do that... I made a big deal out of it though and ran every time he did it to hopefully stop him before he vomitted, and so he started using it as an attention-grabbing thing. Everytime he got angry he would yell and stick his fingers down his throat making terrible sounds.
Lucky for me, I can sit here and laugh about it because he's not doing it anymore, but I'm sure the phase will pass soon :)

Mine does it all the time, and boy does he gag! I'm forever ready with a towel because I know one of these days whatever he ate will come up... He doesn't do as often now that he has most of his teeth, but he still will. I think he does it just to get my attention sometimes. If I'm too busy doing housework he'll do it and then when I check on him he just smiles as if to say ' I knew I'd get you to come.'

This is very normal. I have 3 grown children and a 4 year old. Seen this a lot and have found kids jus grow out of this.

This made me laugh when I saw your post. My 16 month old does the same thing. I was also worried the first few times she did it! I have five children and have never seen any of my other children do this. She also has puked numerous times and wondered if it was from teething. I asked my aunt, who is a Doc. if I should be worried. She just smiled and said the first time she did it you gave her a big enough reaction that she knows it will get my attention every time she does it. My 16 month old now laughs whiles she's doing it and runs away. She has turned it into this strange little game. My aunt also said it's also a control thing. My little one see's how it upsets me so she does it more. you've got to love this age!!! If you think it's something more you should call your doc.

my son did the same thing! maybe teeth, or maybe just something they do, doctor told me it is a good sign when they put their fingers in their mouth, it shows that their mind is developing correctly, they have to discover their body parts, might just not know how far they can stick those funny things and than look out its too far!! haha not to worry!
