@ catalina no I wish I knew but I think it may have something to do with him being ADHD and impulse control. the day he took the gameboy he did not have his meds.
I did make sure he understood that was not an excuse!

@ Sarah ty im just still heart broken that we are going through this

I agree with what you did. I would also ban him from video games totally for a month.

It sounds like you have it under control!

Do you know why he is stealing?

I waited before we talked... Part of his punishment is that he has to stay in the Principals office for lunch and recess and he has to write apology letters to the child, my self, the Principal and his Teacher. My punishment for him is that he has to clean out his room all toys then he will have an opportunity to earn some of them back... some of them will be going in the trash. He has been banned from all video games indefinitely (there is another reason for this). This is the third time in a year he has been caught stealing something.

I'm sorry! That's no fun!

Try to let go of your anger, first of all you need to make sure your son feels sorry and isn't just saying it.

Talk to him (calmly) about how his actions make him look explain to him that when you're a grown up if you steal you go to jail.

I would make him write an apology to the boy and his parents and then I would tell him that if he wants a game boy of his own he needs to earn it (chores and good behavior).

This too will pass!
