My son won't sleep through the night

My son is 18 months old and still struggles to sleep through the night. He still wakes up at three or four times. I feel like I'm going crazy with the sleep deprivation as I am pregnant with my second child. I have tried everything from limiting nap time to putting night late in his room and everything in between. Any suggestions for me?

How long do you let him be before you go pick him up and when you do go to him, what do you do to get him back down?
Limiting daytime sleep can make a child over-tired and cranky and actually make nighttime sleep worse. At 18 months he still needs at least one 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon and maybe a short catnap in the morning or evening. We all wake up during the night and learning to go back to sleep alone is a skill that he needs to learn. when he goes down at bedtime, do you put him down awake or asleep?

At least you are not in a postion where he want to nurse or have a bottle, or scream til you rock him to sleep. I think with a little more time this will pass. Maybe he is teething and not sleeping great right now. Hang in there!

I'll try it. I usually go in there, change his diaper or give him a hug or whatever and put him back down. I don't know, I think I just have the expectation that he's going to sleep

It really sounds like you are doing everything you can; he can fall asleep alone and return to sleep as well. Maybe try calling out to him and say "it's ok mama is right next door, go back to sleep"? Would that make him want you more? Hopefully it's a passing phase.

I put him down awake. And it depends on if he is screaming or not how long I will let him cry before I go in there. Sometimes I wait a few minutes and let him cry it out and he goes back to sleep.but sometimes I guess just instinctually I go in there and change his diaper and put him back in his bed and he goes to sleep pretty soon after that. It's just really hard because sometimes he gets up three or four times and it's like being up all night for me
