My son is 7 years old. He refuses to go to the toilet when he has to have a bowel movement. He has, at times, used it for a week at a time, but that was only when he was promised a special toy. I have tried everything I can think of. He even went to see a GI doctor. I was told to give him Milk of Magnesia and Mineral Oil. All that does is make him have accidents in his underwear several times a day. He is in 2nd grade and hold it until he gets home, then uses his underwear.

Please, if anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thank you

God bless.

Yes. He has been made to take a shower/bath and clean himself. When I tried that, he enjoyed bathing himself. I have given him baby wipes to clean himself up, hoping that if he wasn't in the tub he would stop. That didn't work either.

I will call his doctor on Monday and suggest a therapist.

Thank you.

Have you tried making him clean up his own messes? Have you tried making him clean up his own messes while he's taking the milk of mag or mineral oil?

If you've made it REALLY unpleasant for him to mess his pants and everything medical has been ruled out, I'd take him to a therapist to try to find out why he's doing it. Seven is old to still be having potty issues for no reason.
