Hi! My daughter Elaine is 34 years old and is severely mentally impaired and has cerebral palsy. She cannot talk. The only liquid she will drink is water and we are lucky if she drinks one glass a day. Her constipation issues have been with her all her life...we have tried everything and just inlast several months we have had to give her a full bag enema for relief...Miralax, peri colace, senekot, colace, etc...works for a bit and then stops...I am at my wits end..Brenda

Olive Oil is a natural product, with ZERO side effects! When I said give it to her to drink, I meant like one full spoon twice per day depending on the case. Olive Oil never hurts, it will solve the problem of constipation and the body will benefit from it in many other ways. Please Google it's properties.

Ok, just concerned about the post that advised drinking it directly. Have you considered stool softeners, or is this really a matter of just not enough fluid?

I would not give a severe CP adult olive oil to drink. Unless the doctor had advised it directly.

Since she is a great eater, put Olive oil in her food, soups, salads... if she can drink it, then don't hesitate, it works wonders! Good luck!

I have used Senekot, Miralax, colace, and peri colace....I have given her all of these at different times with yogurt...they work for awhile and then it seems her body becomes immune to them and stops working....I feel if she drank more water it would help...I also have tried liquid magnesium capsules as I have heard this to can also help..so far no luck....

I have been told not to give olive oil directly...I can make more of a conscious effort to add it to her foods....

If one glass of water is all you can get in her a day, maybe a feeding tube would be an option? If she does not already have one, it may help a lot. Then, she could eat for pleasure and get enough nutrients through the feeding tube. If that is not an option, try high water content food; watermelon, cucumbers, cantaloupe and citrus fruits.
