i m a mother of 3 daughters and the question is abt my 3rd one when she was born she was only 17 inches/43 cm in height and 5 pounds and 15 ounces which put her into below 3rd percentile...after 10 months she is 22 inches/56 cm and little above than 12 pounds...she looks like a 3 month old infact some three months old must be bigger than her...her arms and legs are smaller too...we have seen 2 geneticist and done the blood testing for dwarfism...by the grace of GOD reports came back normal...other than being short she is absolutely fine(thank u GOD)she is a happy active baby..all milestones on time...she is going to walk on her own n e time now..she can feed herself cheerios...its just her pediatrician make me worry..my other daughters werent like dat..they were average height..and one more thing i m 5.1 in height and my husband is 5.6 or 5.7...i sometime comfort myself by thinking dat she is small coz i m not a big person n searching the internet finding other parents in the same situation...i hope i can find some here too

I have a 22mo son who has "primary familial short stature syndrome". In other words, he is just short. We didn't put him through excessive blood work, but we did see a geneticist and did monthly height and weight checks for his entire first 18-months. He is currently in the fourth percentile for weight and the second percentile for height. The doctors estimate his full-grown height will be about 5'3". He is a peanut, and is so much smaller than his peers, but what he lacks in size he makes up for in personality! He has a smile for everyone he meets and he steals the heart of little old ladies and every other person who is lucky enough to get a smile out of him. :) I say as long as she is healthy and thriving, embrace her smaller stature for what it is! Good for you for making sure it's nothing major.. but it sounds like she's just going to be a peanut. I bet she's cuuute! And hey, when they stay smaller longer, they don't seem to grow up quite as fast. Bonus!! Best of luck and a life time of health and happiness to you and your family!

Neel, I have always had comments about how little my daughter is too. Nothing wrong with her, she is just small. Those percentiles mean that someone's children have to be big and someones children have to be small. Not every kid is average.

My daughter was only 5lb 2 oz when she was born, and 45cm. Even at her Kindergarten screening last year, I had the nurses telling me she was underweight. She is still one of the shortest children in her class at school, and she is now 6. In fact, a friend of mine has a 2 year old who is only 3kg lighter than my 6 year old, so it just emphasises the presence of the extremes!!!

She was just meant to be little. She eats well, she is healthy, she hits EVERY other milestone. I don't worry about her at all.

My son was 2 1/2 pounds and my daughter was 3 lbs 15 oz.... Ive found that nearly everything they warned me that my babies wouldnt do came to be false. They are a bit short but they hit all their milestones and theyre so smart!
Dont worry for a second that ur baby will be what the doctors predict... You know your baby best!

Girl, my son who is 3 is in the 98th percentile for everything and my daughter is 21 months and in the 1st percentile. She has a small case of spina bifida but that has nothing to do with her size. She is just tiny. She was smaller than most 6 month olds up untill about a month ago then she decided to grow some but she is still only about half the size of other kids her age. But she takes after me, at 21 months old she weighs the same as I did when I started school. I was tiny. Now I am 4 ft 11 at 22 years old and when i lose all my baby weight im usualy between 95 and 110 lbs, depending on which way i hold my mouth. hahaha (sorry i think that is a southern joke.) lol anyways, i believe your daughter is fine. We just have tiny baby girls i reckon. lol

AND MIGHT I ADD, MY TINY LITTLE GIRL PUTS AWAY SOME FOOD. SHE IS NON STOP EATING SOMETHING SO I KNOW SHE AINT TINY FROM NOT EATING LOL

If she's growing, thriving, and meeting milestones... I'd try not to worry. I don't know how tall I was, but I was only 13 pounds at 13 months. I'm just under 4'11" now, so definitely tiny but healthy. :)

But, even if she had been effected by dwarfism, that would have been fine. No matter how big, she is still you amazing baby girl, right?

My son was born 5 lbs 11oz and 19-1/2inches. He was in premie diapers for more than a month.
He is now 4, and is 95th percentile for height and 90th for weight. He's the tallest kid in his class. He's been 90th percentile or above since he was about a year old.
She could still grow...or she could be short. Either way, she's healthy.

And there are some short guys out there too, they might just like to find nice short girl to love :) My poor Chad is 2 inches shorter than me! Height isn't always fun..lol

Sounds like she's just going to be a small person. If she's not failure to thrive and she doesn't have dwarfism and there's nothing else wrong with her then I wouldn't worry about it. Some of us are just really short. I'm only 5'2" so I know how it goes. ;)
