My son just turned 3 this April and still isn't talking. At his 2 year checkup, his pediatrician said he was not autistic. My husband and I don't really see any signs of this either. However, he still isn't talking so I'm not sure what the ped. will say at his 3 year checkup. The strange thing is that when he does attempt to say things (which is very rare) he can only get the beginning of the word out and it is very breathy! For instance the word "that" would come out something like, thththahahahat or the word "bread" would be, bbbrrreaaa! We have had his hearing checked and that isn't the problem either. Has anyone ever encountered something like this before? Any tips would be helpful!

My son didn't talk very much eather at that age, and this fall when he started kindergarten we realized just how far behind he has fallen. He now has speech therapy in school, and we're investigating developmental and neurological problems. I am not saying something has to be wrong, but if it is you'd rather deal with it now than later. Get his speech assessed by a speech and language pathologist, and then you can know where he stands and even learn a few games etc you can do at home to help develop his language. Testing his hearing might also be a good idea, as that could easily explain it. Of course some kids are late talkers, but developmentally he should have at least a few words at 3 years old. I wish you the best of luck, and feel free to send me a message for more information.
