Hi,I have been some posts but haven't come across anyone who is 16.Everyone seems to be 10 and younger. We are starting with the lowest dose,0.25.He gets very overwhelmed and stressed out at school,he prefers to be alone and twirl things with his hands like pencils and talk to himself.I know that is why school is so stressful because of the constant focusing and teachers interrupt his thinking! That what he says.Well now he has added a new behavior at school when he can't take it anymore he says he is going to stab himself and then someone else.So of course crisis has to come to school an eval on him to clear to go back to school. he is on Lexapro for 5 years and what a life saver this medicine has the Doctor thinks the risperdone will help him in school.I have heard only a few things about this med and both were bad.Has anyone have a son 16,who acts like this and has risperdone helped? Thank you all

As a school nurse I have a few kids who take risperdone. This is a hard question to answer. If you trust your child's psychiatrist, then maybe give it a try and see how he does. If you are concerned that this may not be the right drug for him, ask for a second opinion.
