mystery screaming

My daughter is almost 6 weeks old and is usually extremely happy and calm with no colic. Today I was holding her while she was half asleep and all of a sudden she screamed. It started with that open mouthed silent, no breathing moment right before they scream like they're being murdered. She was clean, dry, fed, warm and hadn't been moved even an inch. I checked her clothes for anything that could be hurting her and found nothing. After a couple minutes of this, she just as quickly stopped screaming and fell asleep...anyone have any ideas about what may have happened?

It could just be a nightmare. My 5.5 week old daughter has been randomly screaming and crying in her sleep and than she just stops also. She doesn't do it when she's awake so I've been assuming its just a bad dream. If you are overly concerned you could talk to your doctor about it at your next appt, or even give him/her a call and ask.

It sounds weird but by daughter did that once in a while when she was young. I was told it was possibly growing pains. As weird as that sounds, I guess there is such a thing. She would randomly scream or cry during the day and at night and it was just the weirdest thing, until a family member told us of these pains. She could be going through a small growth spurt. Believe what you want but just a thought.
