My daughter is transitioning now at a year old. Some days are easy and some days aren't. I found that if you change activites or scenery it helps a lot to postpone naptime. I go to the gym at 9:30 so that my daughter will stay up past 10am then by time I get home at 11 i put her down and she sleeps till 2 and tehn doesn't take another nap. But on the days that I don't go to the gyma nd change sceneries she's often cranky by 9:45 and I usually give in and end up giving her two naps a day. The more often she takes one nap a day the more she only expects one nap a day. Babies definately need a routine, and need to know what to expect.

My son was about 18 months old and it was a bit hard because i used that time to tidy up or read a book and relax. When he was 2yrs old he stopped all together with naps and now at 2.5yrs old he still doen'st nap, gets up at 8am and wont go to sleep until 10 some nights...it's VERY tiring. My 9 month old is still doing 2 naps but i think she's going to give up one soon but i know she can't because she is too grumpy if she doesn't nap. Look for the signs of needing a nap and go by that. My son will nap if we go for a drive and it's late in the day so if he naps we know he needed it but we also know we're in for an even longer ngiht...
