My son is almost 2 and a half. He used to nap from 1 to 3 or 3:15. (I always had to wake him from his nap.) On the days he does not nap, I let him lay in his crib, playing with toys from 1 to 2, then I get him up. Anyway, this week he only napped Sunday and Monday, not the rest of the week. Yesterday at around 4:50 I laid his pillow and blanket on the couch and he napped from 5 to 5:40 (my husband woke him when he got home.) He normally sleeps from 8:45 PM to 8 AM. Of course when he does not nap, he gets grumpy later on. I really do not want him to be done napping, if I have any say. LOL So I'm just wondering if I should maybe put him down at 1:30 instead of 1? I'm just afraid he will want to go down later if he is waking up from his nap later. Or should I just suck it up and not give him a nap and just put him to bed around 8 and hope he still sleeps until his normal time? Thanks for the advice.

Even if he is ready to give up a nap, it's still important to let him have some quiet down time during the day. So I would keep putting in his crib or bed for at least an hour at his normal time with books or quiet toys. My son is 3-1/2, and his non-napping days are increasing, but he still has to lay quietly in his bed for at least an hour with a couple books. If I let him watch a movie or something during "quiet time" it's almost guaranteed he won't fall asleep. But if I only allow him books, he'll usually fall asleep for at least a little bit.
