I have a 18 year old daughter who recently told me my brother in law raped her 2 years ago. The took a bottle of Xanax and spent a week in a mental hospital. I'm afraid to discipline her now for fear she might try killing herself again. Anyone have any advice?

I can only imagine what you must be going through. It's wonderful that you've taken the steps to help your daughter and I think that you seeing a therapist for yourself is a great idea. You are a strong, brave and wonderful mother. Taking care of yourself is equally important. You are both in my prayers.

We see a counselor once a week. I'm thinking maybe I need to see one alone maybe. I can't even explain how broken my heart is or all the emotions I am feeling.

Does your daughter have a counselor that she is seeing? If not, it might be helpful for the two of you to go see a therapist together. It may be helpful to talk to a professional person who is trained to handle tramas and delicate family matters. Having a non bias third person can help to keep the communication open and help to find a proper resolution or further treatment options to help you and your daughter to heal.
