Need advice: soya formula, excess gas and runny tummy for a 10 week old baby boy

My son is 10 weeks old and is on soya formula as there are milk allergies on both sides of the family.

He has had a runny tummy and excess gas for about 5 weeks but this has not been bothering him and the doctors have said everything is fine.

In the last four days when he needs to poo about 2 and a half hours after a feed he screams on average about two and a half hours after each feed for about half an hour as it is really sore and then he has a very ruuny stool. His stool is not hard and should be really easy to pass but he is really sore before the stool comes...sometimes projectile :(

He is not a crying baby and only really cries when he is sore or hungry so am at a loss of what to do. This is casing him to wake up sveral times a night when he was only only waking once a night two weeks ago.

Can anyone help?

I would switch formulas apparently the soy isn't working for him, carnation good start has a very good formula that is supposed to be as close to mothers milk as you can get in a can we had to switch to that with our little one and she did great on it where other formulas gave her excess gas.

i would find out if he inherited these milk allergies because i dont think he did and it sounds to me as if he cant handle this soya stuff. if he did then i would put a warm blanket on his tummy to stop the pain if it is gas causing the pain and i would also keep putting desitin on his bottom with powder that will help soothe him

I was just going to ask if the runny poo was frothy, that is a sign of lactose intolerance.

Thanks for all the tips ladies, I have changed to Lactose free formula on Wednesday and he is much better. Have a great weekend.

Try lactose free formula, most babies who have problems with milk also have problems with soy. I had the worst problems with my 2nd child vomiting, having gas, & skin rashes. I switched her to the Similac lactose free formula which is milk based but has problem of the lactose removed. I now buy the babies r us brand which is just as good. I had a different child in 2 days. It's worth a try. All my doctors were stumped, they told me she had "teething syndrome", I was told I was an anxious mother, and I was told she had reflux.

I had tried my 1st daughter on soy formula & that caused her to vomit for hours. Soy is actually top on the allergy list if you google it.

hmmm soy usually is very easy on their tummies. We switched our son from regular formula to soy because he was very gassy and fussy tummy. That was all we needed to do. So if that is not working for you, then I would suggest another doctors opinion. I feel doctors are too "lax" on babies, I have heard doctors say they can go a week with out pooping and that is no cause for concern- I think that is insane! So I woudl say have him examined by another doctor to make sure there is NO physical cause. Also i am a firm believer in having a baby adjusted by a chiropractor to make sure the spine is alighned for proper digestion of food.
Maybe try the alentium formula- the purple stuff by Similac that really spendy stuff. or try changing bottles he could be getting too much too fast causing his tummy to fill up with air. Are you using new born nipples? making sure he is sitting up more so when eating and not laying down? These are all things I would suggest.
