Graco is a good brand, babies under a year old must be in a rear facing carseat. You can get rear facing that becomes front facing (at 22lbs I think) that's what I would suggest because it saves on cost, also side impact tested is nice to have. If you buy second hand ( I did) check the seat for dates, if its past its safety date don't get it. You should check the Internet for carseat laws in your province/state they may be different.

There are many different brands out there. I think all are good. I tend to go with the Graco brand just because they tend to have the features that I want and the price is decent. Big thing you want is something that can be both rear and forward facing. You will still need to have baby facing rear until he is 1 yr old as by law if you are in the US. If not in US check with your requirements where you live. Many places are recommending that children be rear facing until the age of 2 yrs old. Look at the carseats and find out which one will fit your needs the best. If you want to rear face up to 2 yrs or more then you want to find one that has a bigger weight requirement for rear facing.
