i have not had a outside job in six years. i stay at home with my four year old, he will be starting school next year, and i dont do much. light cleaning around the house, chasing after the dog, etc...i have some medical issues that have stopped me from doing a whole lot. back surgery and thyroid disease, i need to become more active and actually stick to it. i am weak minded, i eat a lot. and most of its junk, and im addicted to soda. im trying to stop all that and be healthier, and lose weight, but its hard...can someone help?

April, what has worked for me; is no refined sugar (that means regular pop) and no white flour. When you eliminate those ingredients from your diet, you'd be shocked how much healthier you will eat. Getting out and walking should be ok for your back. If you still have back pain, talk to your doc about physical therapy. I gained a bunch of weight a few years back when I needed to take prednisone for a health condition. When I stopped the medication, some of the weight came off and some stayed. As a nurse I hate to be a bad example for the students I care for. So I had lost 20, needed about 40 more and now have 15-20 to go. It is slow. I have setbacks. But just doing a little bit each day really helps.

Well I have a weight loss goal as well. I have lost 15 pounds thus far and have about 20 to go. If you want to keep each other accountable? I am in..

So April how has the last week gone? Able to get out a bit? Cutting out soda will help a lot. I do like my carbonated beverages, but on my doc advice I gave up NutraSweet, now I have found that plain seltzer water with a lime squeezed in is actually really satisfying. I am frustrated, i totally hit a plateau and can't get the scale to budge! Keep me posted. If you prefer privately; then PM me!

I bet you will feel some positive effects of these few changes you mentioned. And it is definitely smart to do a few new things and then once those have become a part of your normal routine, then you can add a few more. I think where most of us fail is that we try to go all out and change everything we know we are doing wrong and then it is so easy to feel defeated when we can't keep up with ALL the changes. Cutting out unhealthy snacks is great, limiting the soda is great. Walking more whenever your body can tolerate it is great. I have a friend who cannot walk for exercise and she gets her activity in by swimming since it is easier on her joints. Do you think that might be an option for you?

im trying to become more active, but with my back the way it is, that is difficult for me sometimes. so pretty much im just trying to cut out the snack food altogether, maybe one soda every few days, and walking more, until i feel i am ready to take on more...thank you.

Hi April, I had weight to lose after having 2 babies. As you know there are lots of factors that can work together for weight loss. Do you feel like you have a good understanding of how your medical issues affect your diet and exercise? Are you trying to accomplish your weight loss through your own efforts or are you using any program?
