my son has had lung difficulties since 2 months old. he was in and out of the hospital and they couldnt figure out what was wrong till he was 6 moths old and we finally figured out he was aspirating so the placed a ng tube in his nose. we were doing pretty good until he started pulling it out 3-4 times a day so we tried taking it out seeing how he would do. he was doing good for about a month and then started having to go back in the hospital and wouldnt drink anything so they decided to place a g-button in him this past august. we have been trying to eat for about 3 months now and go to therapy weekly but my son doesnt want anything to do with adult food or any food for that matter. the only thing he eats is snacks like yogurt melts and fruit snacks we tried thickened liquids but he started geting a cough so his dr. kept trying differnt meds. and even took out his adnoids seeing if that would help. He has now had a cough for 3 months now constant and been on 4 different antibiotics and 2 rounds of steroids and nothing is working. His dr. diagnosed him again with aspiration pnemonia and said he can eat or drink anything by mouth. They said he has to be on pedisure so he can get enough fiber and nutrients and its about $12 a day and insurance doesnt pay for it. We currently have 8 dr. at childrens hospital and none of them can figure it out and are currently waiting to hear back form childrens hospital in denver. If anybody has any suggestions as to what this could be or how to help us please let me know i would greatly appreciate it and i hate to see my baby constantly sick thank goodness hes always happy!!

Goof grief you have had a right battle on your hands. You must be warn out just keeping up with his medication and doctors appointments. If you are getting nowhere fast at this hospital then the only thing you can do is ask for a second opinion at another hospital. Being English we do not pay for our health care but I know health care is expensive. My heart goes out to you and your family lets hope they make a correct diagnosis and can treat your son successfully soon.

I wish I could tell you I had an idea. My daughter who is now 5 had some issues with swallowing when she was younger. She never needed a feeding tube, but she did have to have honey thick liquids. Doctors and speech therapists were completely baffled as to why since she was perfectly healthy, and full term at birth. They also said it wasn't from gastric reflux, because they did a swallow study to make sure. She did out grow hers though at about 14 months, and has been fine since. I sure hope the docs can figure out why your little guy is so sick.

yah but if you read in my previous comment he isnt failing to thrive. he is 29lbs and in the 90-100% of kids his age so thats how i know thats now what it is.

it cant be that because i know he doesnt have failure to thrive. Thats what took them so long to figure that he was aspirating because he didnt meet the normal criteria. He is 29 lbs and 31 1/2 inches long and is 14months old. He is very smart for his age and knows where his body parts are,and what 5 animals say and what santa says and can almost count to 3 and is very talkative thats why dr. are so puzzled by this

I don't have any suggestions on what could be wrong. But do you have Health Savings Account (I'm pretty sure that's what its called)? It's an account that you put money in before taxes to pay for medical expenses not covered by insurance. I believe they also cover over the counter meds. It would help with the cost of pedisure and any of the medical bills not covered by your insurance. I would talk to a financial adviser to see if there are any other ways to off set your medical costs. Good Luck. I hope you find out something soon.

Aww poor baby!!! I hate to say this....but it sounds like failure to thrive.....I am no doctor, but here is some info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Failure_to_...

I fthat's what it is I would be surprised it wasn't diagnosed. How old is he? How underweight? How tall? Just wondering because those are some of the signs of FTT, losing weight, or no gain, not growing properly.....
