When my son was a toddler, I babied him. He is 14 now and in many ways he is self sufficient (takes care of his room, clothes, all of his school activities and homework, makes his own plans with friends, etc.). But there are a few things that he still wants me to do for him which include making him a night time snack and cutting his meat. When I tell him, he's old enough to do these things on his own, he uses the excuse that "its our ritual" or "you're going to miss doing these things when I'm in college." I think it's more laziness than anything else (especially the night time snacks), But I also think it's his way of holding on to his childhood. How much should I push to cut the apron strings?
