Can you have a period and still be pregnant? I know it sounds silly but here's the thing, Me and my husband had sex like 3 or 4 weeks ago. I had a period a week ago and and started a new birth control right after. I have been on birth control pills since may of last year. I just changed it to a new kind. Well, I have been tired alot the last few days, nauseous off and on, and had alot of headaches plus i have gained a couple pounds in the last week. I havent gained weight since my last pregnancy. I feel like I am pregnant again. My daughter is 1. My new pill i am taking is supposed to be a lower hormonal pill. why do I feel this way? If anyone else has felt like this please tell me what you think. I am hoping that it is just the pill but, I am thinking, Maybe I am pregnant. Is it possible?

Your old birth control should have protected you through the switch. You may be having side effects to the new birth control. Those are the side effects I always had from birth control pills and one of the reasons I couldn't take them. You can always take a pregnacy test to be sure. If you and the test is negative, make an appointment with your doctor and discuss tryng a different birth control.

I didn't know about my pregnancy until I was almost six months along because I still had my periods and I thought the sleepiness was due to working a lot. So yes.

thanks everyone for your help. I think that I am just worrying too much but if the symptoms keep up I just might take a test later in the week?

My best friend had a period every month and didn't even know she was pregnant until she went into labor and had an 8lb baby boy. She didn't look pregnant (skinny thing!) and didn't feel pregnant. Anything is possible...take the test!

It may just be your body adjusting to your new birth control pill. I do think it's possible to have a period while you're pregnant, especially in the beginning.

Yes, you can. (I mean, technically it's not a period, it's what they call "breakthrough bleeding" -- but it looks like a period if you don't know you're pregnant.) My boss had bleeding every month for the first 3 months of her pregnancy -- in fact, she was shocked to learn she was 4 months along because she didn't realize she'd missed 3 periods, not just one. Apparently this is not as uncommon as you would think. And I had quite a lot of bleeding during my first trimester, which my doctor said was probably due to a blood clot near the cervix that my uterus decided it needed to get rid of (eeeewwww). It was really scary, but everything turned out fine, fortunately.

It's definitely also possible to get pregnant while on birth control. I know any number of people that this has happened to (and/or it happened to their moms ...).

OTOH, switching to a new BCP can also make you feel weird in all sorts of ways, so ... tough to know.

Now, I can't get pregnant on my own at all -- I don't have ovaries anymore, so I need some pretty drastic medical help -- so I hope some more people with some experience of, like, getting pregnant by having sex will weigh in here with their experiences ...

Coming from a woman who twice got pregnant while on birthcontrol. It's possible. I also had bleeding monthly with my son until four months. It could be the hormones messing with you though. GoodLuck! ps I just posted about possibl being knocked again on a different birthcontrol Just thought i would share.
