I am sure you have heard this a million times, you were lucky about your eye. Mine is on the left side of my face on the jaw line. Maybe a bit higher. It looked like raw hamburger when it happen, was pretty damned deep. I have significant scar tissue. It was probably around the size of a quarter, little smaller....now it is about the size of a nickel. Cannot believe it is still tender. I am using scar lotion on it, but I think I may need to have it fixed. It is really a deep red color.

Mine was a hole straight through my lip. I did have teeth mark under my eye though so was lucky. This was almost 35 years ago and the plastic surgeon grafted shin from inside my mouth and stitched it onto my lip. It had never been done before but it meant I didn't have a skin tone bit in the middle of my lip.

OMG that is so scary!! I cannot blame you one bit.

I recently got bit in the face by a dog at work, not nearly that bad. Had to go to the hospital. I have a pretty bad scar that everyone keeps telling me looks fantastic. Well, I don't think they would think it looked so great if it was on their face.

I had a serious dog bite when I was 5 and had to have reconstructive surgery. That's my only knowledge of dog bites.

What was your 17 year old doing to provoke the dog?

Get medical attention, report the situation. Make sure BOTH SIDES are reported.

She's going to need a tetanus shot, for sure. She also needs to be educated on when the appropriate time to approach a dog is.

Hopefully it's not too bad, and she can move forward.

Dog bites are usually not stiched because of sealing in bacteria, but it depends on the extent of the bite. Report the dog, and make sure it is up to date on all the shots. You really need to give information on the situation, if she was in the dogs yard and provoke, or the dog all out attacked her. Either way, the owners should be paying for all medical bills. At the very least, she needs a tetinus shot.

Is it serious? Go to the hospital/doctor to get checked out. It could need stitches.
