New mom with questions about daycare

Kb - posted on 06/28/2012 ( 2 moms have responded )

I am first time mom, my son is eight months old. He has been in daycare for four months, there have been three incident reports already. He has crawled since he started and pulls up on everything so he is very active. He has had two bumps on his head and was bitten. Is this common in daycare or should I be concerned? I really like where he is and he is always very happy going there. Should I be concerned or is this common?

very very common! even at home you'll start to notice more and more bumps as he starts moving more. if serious injuries become common I'd be concerned(serious being falling from great heights or cutting body parts off with scissors lol) but bumps and bruises are a common part of life. If the biting becomes a regular issue then have a chat with the daycare but for right now I'd say he's fine.

The falling could happen at home as well so I wouldn't be concerned about that. The biting is common when you get a group of children together when they are young. They don't know how to express their frustrations and biting is a common response when another child takes something they want.

If the biting happens regularly I would talk to the center and discuss what they are doing about it. Sometimes there will be 1 child that is a biter and they will need to be more vigilant with that child.
