Your babies are probably intolerant of the protein in cow milk, not lactose intolerant. Though both mean avoiding dairy products, there is actually a significant difference. A person with lactose intolerance could drink Lactaid, or drink cow milk after taking a medication that helps break down lactose. Someone with a protein intolerance would still be feeling sick after drinking lactaid. It EXTREMELY rare for a newborn to be lactose intolerant. Breastmilk contains lactose. However it is very common for newborns to be intolerant of cow milk proteins. If you're breastfeeding, you'll need to avoid drinking cow milk, and avoid eating foods like cheese, yogurt, cream, butter, etc. If you are formula feeding you can try the formulas with broken down proteins, or soy formula, or there's another one available if baby is allergic to both cow milk and soy. Can't remember the name of it right now.
