This is my second child, I am so afraid of her getting sick and having to have the spinal tap done. At how many weeks do they stop this? How did you moms do to keep from going stir crazy? My husband says I need to get out of the house sooner or later, and that if she is going to get sick it's going to come from him or our 5 year old DD

The more you expose your little one the better.
Oh my blessed god. I so enjoyed every second of my baby's life, we went everywhere and it was wonderful. Such a blessing get out and enjoy her go for walks talk to her, let her see the sky hear the birds....this is a one time experience go live and when they get sick care for them..until then dance life is playing your song. Enjoy

Here's some info for you.

However, it is rare that a baby would have a spinal tap for fever and no other symptoms. You need to relax a little!

Besides, your husband is right, if you baby gets sick, it is likely to be your 5 year old that brings it home.

No, they don't. Fevers are commonly treated as symptomatic unless other symptoms present. My husband and I have 4 children, all have had fevers as infants, and only one of them has had a spinal tap....when he presented with all the symptoms of meningitis at the age of 12 - you know, the rash, the stiff neck, the eyes.......and it turned out it was meningitis. Unless the fever is extreme, it is totally unnecessary even to go to the ER.

Where are you getting your information? You are totally misinformed.

Usually in really small infants if they are running a fever, and no cause is found they run every test possible.

What would make you think she'd need a spinal tap if she got sick? That's kind of bizarre, unless it has happened before.
