My son is 19 months old. He has had what is being called bronchitis for the last 3 weeks. Twice during this time he's had what we've thought are night terrors. He starts to cough, then starts to scream and cry uncontrollably, he weezes some and continues to cough during this. He isn't awake is sorta confused and disoriented, his heart races, and hes uncontrolable. My SIL mentioned allergy related asthma this evening, her son has asthma for some time now. SO, I looked the symptoms of an attack and its very similar. Does anyone have experience with this...he was born at 36 weeks, but with no complications...He goes to the Doc again monday.

My SD had something similar when she was 4 yrs old. She seemed to always be sick. She had nasal congestion, runny nose and cough (mostly at night). She would have it for a period of 4 days to 8 days then she would be ok for a couple of weeks, then it would start again. This went on for six month. Once she had it for three weeks so my husband and I took her to the doctor. First we were given Flonase nasal spray and after two weeks, the cough stopped. We thought it was a miracle! Unfortunately her mother smokes around her so her symptoms came back in a few months. After a couple of trips to the doctor and being given a breathing treatments each time, the doctor told us she has asthma. We have been able to keep her symptoms under control, but she takes two allergy meds a day and an asthma inhaler.

It could be asthmatic bronchitis. That would explain the wheezing and coughing so much. In fact that's exactly what it sounds like. He probably needs a nebulizer and steroids.
