No hands in diaper!

My 22 month old boy has started sticking his hands down the front of his diaper. It was funny at first when he was asleep like that but doing it in front of people and other children is embarrassing! I have tried telling him nicely not to do that, it's inappropriate. I have tried smacking his hand and telling him no when he does it. And I have tried to ignore it when we are at home hoping the lack of attention he gets from it would get him to stop. Well nothing is working. What can I do different to get him to stop? Is this just a phase? And what do I say to other moms if this happens in public around other children? I feel so bad about it!

I have a 4 year old boy and my most commonly used phrase is, "Jacob, get your hands out of your pants!" It's just something boys do. Once when my son was about 2, we were checking out at the grocery store. He grabbed his crotch (he was in the cart) looked at the cashier and said, "YUMMYYY GOOOOOOOD!" I have no idea where he got it from but it was hilarious and gave everyone around us a good laugh. On the other occasions he's done it in public or in front of other people, I just tell him to take his hands out of his pants. Even if it means I have to repeat myself every time, I do. Men like to make sure their junk is still there. Hell, my 35 year old husband can barely keep his hands off of himself when we're home lol

I'm sure I've been no help at all lol Sorry!

It is just a phase, all kids do it especially boys. Just continue to tell him no, and make him wash his hands each time. Smacking might work or it might not. Put a onsie on him everyday underneath his clothing so that he can't get into his diaper, maybe he'll get tired of trying.
