My oldest is 3 so we don't have to worry about internet lol. We have a small living room (which is also the dining room) and a small kitchen with no space for a computer but we have a small room that was designed to be an "office" (all the neighbors use it an office). We keep our computer there. It is recommended the computer in a common area but we don't have a large enough open central area and there is no space for a computer anywhere else. My husband who is a counselor working with teens and their parents says that when they demonstrate they can well manage difficult and tempting situations they will use the computer unsupervised? What do we do when they're older? What if we both have to work and they need internet for hw? I heard kids can bypass monitoring software.

I really think you are overthinking things. Yes it's always better to be prepared for the worst scenario but I think you are worrying about too much too soon.

If you teach your children to respect the household rules and make sure that all punishments are followed through with, there's no reason that they won't be responsible and follow the rules you set down.
