Rear facing is SO much safer as long as you have an appropriate seat designed for it. Where do you live, Edith? If it's in the US it is law to rear face til at least a year and recommended to rear face until at least 2... My son was able to rear face until he was 3.25 and technically could have rear faced safely and comfortably until his 4th birthday.

Thats really up to you,and what you feel would be best. We do forward facing, i have never seen rear facing here in the country i live with my family. I am not even sure if they sell rear facing car seats here. I have never seen them in the stores,i actualy only found out what rear facing is from another post awhile ago.

What help? The best is to go to a store where they sell car seats, the people working there can help finding the right one and give information.
