Hi I need input from other moms to see if any one else goes through this and any tips you ladies may have. I have a 6 year old who is nonverbal. I personally didn't talk until I was 5. After my son turned 5 and there was no talking we immediately seeked speech therapy and improvements have been made. He has just started kindergarten, was never in day care or preschool he was with Grandma while I went to work. We tried day cares but they all said he needs a smaller environment and we couldn't find one we were comfortable and continued with Grandma until school started. He is a picky eater, not fully potty trained( I have tried sooo hard) Also, I try to work on speech at home he understands and is smart, but sometimes he ignores me and starts spinning his toys around. I am looking for any suggestions tips or anything that will assist in our daily routine or to know if any other moms experience this and what they do . Thanks so much

Take him to see a qualified child psychologist. They can diagnose too. If you don't get a diagnosis, the assistance (one-on-one support, etc) will start to dry up very quickly.

Thank you for your response little miss cant be wrong, what your saying is absolutely true, so far his doctor has referred us to an autism center to evaluate for autism, there is a 10 month waiting list so we have not been just yet . In terms of school he started kindergarten already and they have a one on one teacher to assist him through out the day the school is also going to do a hearing, vision, and evaluation an screen for autism as well. After the evaluations and tests they will develop an individualized education plan. I have done play dates for him with other children while he was with grandma for socialization.

I would have him evaluated by a physician and see what they think. For him to be nonverbal at 6, not potty trained, this could be a red flag along with how he reacts. If all is good, then you really need to get your child socialized with other children in a school environment asap/
