How do you stop a 21 month old from breastfeeding? I worry that I've left my son nursing too long even if it's not frequent, and now stopping him is particularly difficult

You can let him continue until he outgrows the need to nurse... or you can set limits and start cutting down the times that he nurses (changing your routine during those particular times can help) and just stay firm cutting down sessions one by one until he is done.

21 months is not too long to nurse (unless you are totally over it). WHO recommends til 2 years and beyond... w/ no upper age limit. My own son nursed til 3.25 years old and HE was not ready to wean, but it was out of our control at that time.
