Nuvaring

I recently went through a divorce. I was with my highschool sweetheart for 10 years and had two beautiful boys from the relationship. He was the only man I was ever with. I went on my first date in 10 years on thursday and had unprotected sex then the next day I was hanging out with a long time friend and had unprotected sex. I have been on nuvaring since last month, I followed directions and put my new ring in on the first of May. I noticed after the second night of intercourse my ring was on the floor 4-5 hours after. I did not put it back in because it was more than three hours and my insurance only allows one ring per month. I am now worried I could become pregnant because I have heard sperm can live for 3-4 days. My other concern is if I were to become pregnant would it be from the second night because I had the ring in on the first so it would have killed the sperm correct? I really don't want to be one of those women who gets pregnant and doesn't know who the dad is.

Nuvaring is hormonal birth control... it does not kill sperm. Leaving it out longer than 32 hours does not destroy the ring... it is more comparable to missing a pill. Im sorry to say it, but were you to become pregnant... the only way of knowing would be a dna test after birth. However, there is some protection, if limited, from having used it within the same cycle. It is not too late to take plan B, and putting the ring back in should offer more protection- be sure to wash it with cool water.

Thank you ladies for your comments :) I was worried people would judge me for something I am already ashamed of. I did however start my period on Tuesday which was three days after my second encounter so I am hoping for the best. I will keep you updated if anything changes.

You could get pregnant or maybe not. I once forgot to use a be ring for over a week because I mistakenly set the alarm on my phone a week later. I didn't get pregnant. Just don't get a fright if you don't get your period on time. I once stopped using the nuvaring and I waited 3 months for the period. Best is you take a test when its time to. If you are pregnant you will need a DNA test to know who the father is. Use condoms for protection against STDs.

You'll just have to wait to see if you are pregnant.
In regards to having unprotected sex, you really should use a condom as well. They protect against STI's as well as pregnancy and unless the men are giving you medical evidence that they don't have an STI then you should protect yourself. I honestly would sleep with someone who didn't use one.

The literature I got with it said only place back in if less than 3 hours so I threw it out :( I have never ever had more than one sexual partner in my life so this was a huge mistake on my part. The was only two days ago so it would be to early to tell if I was pregnant. I was unsure if the hormones from the ring would last long enough after falling out to prevent pregnancy. I used my first ring on 4/1 and then left in for 4 weeks to skip a period and placed the new one in one 5/1. Having my date night on 5/7 and then the unexpected event on 5/8 or 5/9 early morning ( wine was involved so no telling what time it was) I was hoping it would lean more towards the second event because we have been friends for a long time so it would be easier than a first date baby if that makes sense. Also to put it out there it was a first date but we had hung out in a group multiple times... sorry I don't want people to think I am sleeping around because that is not my thing. These are the first sexual encoutners I have had since my divorce.
