im getting married in 3 months, May 26th, and i dont know what to do. we dont have much money and i want to do something small. we have about 30 guests that we plan to invite. we dont want anything to formal, nice dresses and nice pants and shirts. i dont know where i can have it at, a park? resturant? i like the idea of a park but not sure ho to do it. i know that dollar stores have lot of decorations for weddings. and what about food? should i do like a BBQ? have it catered? make things myself? i will be having some financial help from a couple family members but i dont wanna spend alot you know. and what about a priest? how much do they cost? if anyone has advice or has had a small wedding outside please help, thanks!

A friend who got married a few years ago got married in the church and just hired the local community hall for the reception. We all mucked in decorating it, making food, doing flowers etc and it was one of the best weddings I have ever been to.

I would have it at a nice park. Have it catered and make your own favors. Normally gifts are the bridesmaids jewelry. Which could run you maybe $50.
Priests ask for a donation usually, but you can check with your church. If you aren't a member normally a priest won't marry you.
You have to rent chairs too, so people can sit and watch you come down the "aisle."
Try to pick a park with a gazebo, that way you can do your vows there and most parks need reservations in advance.

I don't know where you are in the world but in the uk it is not expensive to get married. Why not get married in a registry office and have catering at home that I am sure both the mums would help with. My brother got married for very little money and then a few years later he had a wedding blessing in a church as they both felt they needed the big wedding thing. My other friend is going to Kenya to get married and originally it was just the couple and both parents but when family found out it turned into 26 couples all paying for themselves. It did make me laugh this small intimate wedding turned into 56 people accompanying them on their honeymoon!!!

A church hire/priest and marriage counselling in Aus is about $400 and a celebrant is about that too. my friend had a halloween theme wedding in their backyard with the ceremony and a nice dress/hair etc with a celebrant and then a bbq afterwards. everyone bought their own alcohol. it was really nice and the ceremony was so short we all really enjoyed it! she just designated friends to help that are good at cooking things.
