My girls are 3 1/2yrs. old and just this last week one of them has started to stutter quite a bit. Have Doctor a appointment set up but just wondering if anyone else has had a child that started to stutter at a later age?

Hello Beth - I can see your post was some time ago now. Can you please tell me how things have gone for your daughter with her stuttering? I have twin boys who are 3 1/2 now and one of them developed a stutter last year. We've recently started speech therapy for him as it was determined that it is not a developmental stutter. The therapy must be done on a daily basis and I need to separate the boys to do it - they are both resisting and fighting the separation. Even when they are doing things that they each love to do normally. The child stuttering is actually the better speaker of the two. I would love to hear of your experience as I am unsure what to do now to help my son. Thanks in advance.

My 3 year old kind of stutters but it's not a pathological stutter. The type of stuttering kids usually do at this age is because they are searching for the words they want to use. Their vocabulary is growing at exponential rates and they want to use new things they learn all the time. Plus, sometimes they know what they are trying to say but maybe don't know how to say it. you can see the specialist, but I wouldn't worry too much.
