Hi there,

Ive just joined this site as worried about my little girl, she was born at 6lb 13oz (3.1kg), and regained her birth weight at about 3.5weeks, she is going to be 9 weeks this Thursday and is only weighing in at 7lb 13oz (3.55kgs) We have to have her weighed every 2 weeks, she is very little and is still in tiny baby clothes, she is exclusively BF and seems to feed well, no latch problems and feeds anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour almost every 2 hours during the day. She sleeps well from 12-7.30am usually and then feeds and sleeps for another 3hours, we have about 6/7 dirty nappies a day and she looks healthy but small and is a pretty happy baby who laughs and smiles a lot so she seems fine but im getting very worried about her weight gain and am considering adding in some formula feeds but was wondering if anyone else in similar boat and for any advise. Dr said as long as she stays on the 4th centile she is probably just small, but the chart is so small, its so hard to tell what weight she should be ! Any help really appreciated

Agreed. Just keep up with the doctor appointments - she is probably just a small baby. My brother's little girl was similar - at around 6 months though, she stopped gaining weight, and ended up around the 2nd percentile. She is now over two, still skinny, but a truly awesome little girl. Smart as a whip, active, fun, but thin. As long as the doc says everything is ok, and she is pooping, I woudln't worry.

If she's eating well, soiling lots of nappies, and she's growing (even if it's a minimal amount) she's just fine. Some babies are just small. I was terrified my son was fat (he's about 5 months old and weighs about 17-18 pounds). According to the charts, he's not fat, just a BIG baby. He's in the 75th percentile for height and weight. My daughter was in the lower 25% when she was a baby. Every kid is different. If you want to add formula to her diet you certainly can. But be forewarned that it can cause tummy issues. When I went to the hospital for two days for an infection my family had to give expressed breast milk and formula mixed together and it gave my son awful diarrhea and a diaper rash, too. So...I guess I would ask your doctor what you should do next. If it were me? I'd just keep plugging along. Good luck. :)
