The only conditions I have to meet for my son's are that the expenditures be for him. All school related, medical related, personal related (clothing) is included. When I asked about using the funds to help purchase his first vehicle, I was given the go ahead by the caseworker.
One of my sons went to Germany for a school exchange on his money, and both have been to language camp on it as well.

Oh... w/ the back pay or the monthly stuff? I could be wrong, of course.. I only have personal experience w/ SSI for adults... and I get to spend that on anything in life. ;)

If you've got 'back pay" it seems as if support is being paid. Those conditions, if you agreed to such in your orders are ridiculous. Ask your attorney to file for a change.

Why can't kids w/ money just shop at any regular store? I'm confused....

Checks for what? If they're support checks, they should be already being used. If they're SSI checks...same deal. It's not difficult to comply with SSI, all you need to do is purchase things that the child needs in regards to food, clothing, medical, etc and keep receipts.
