My 6mth old has Oral thrush, hes had it for about 4 weeks now, Ive gone through nearly 2 bottles of nilstat using it 3 times a day with no change. the thrush is located just inside his mouth (behind his cheeks) on both sides, the early childhood nurse at his 6mth check up says its an odd place for it to be, also hes never had antibiotics so I think its a little strange that he has it at all. When i use the nilstat he almost instantly spits it (doesn't taste very good i assume) so Ive been using my finger to wipe it over the thrush area so it actually gets on. Both my GP and the pharmacist told me i don't need to treat myself and I don't feel like I have any symptoms but I cant help thinking that must be the reason its not going. Has anyone else had this problem? If I do treat myself what with and when?

Ok so I'm thinking of going against the drs advice and treating myself, but what with? should I use canestin? worried it might be harmful to my baby, will it even work? are you supposed to use canestin on your breasts? really need some advice here please.

Unfortunately I live in a small rural town and don't have access to a pediatrician, but my gp wouldn't prescribe me anything she doesn't think I need to treat myself, Ive been told just to continue with the nilstat but with absolutely no change in the thrush I'm not sure where to go from here.
