Just found this site while nearing wits end again. My 17 year old adopted daughter got into drugs a couple years ago with some bad friends and can't seem to function. Can not longer get her to go to therapy, church, school or do anything she used to love. She lies won't come home sometimes for days and is turning I can't figure out if this is drug behavior, mental illness or rebel lazy teen behavior. She's even having older homeless men buy alcohol for her and her friends. I'm so disgusted. She was not raised this way and her throwing away everything at this age is heartbreaking to us. Can't decide if residential treatment would help if she's not wanting to change. Help advise please! I'm losing my mind as well as never sleeping. Is it better to just let her reap her own consequences or control it with lockdown. I don't know that those ever work.

Boy, can I relate! Although our daughter wasn't into drugs, she went through these other things too. Even the fact that she is adopted. Hard times, but thankfully, we made it through. She did end up pregnant though. She is now 23 and getting things worked out. A long road, lots of counselors and tons of prayer.
I wish we had known of the National Guard Youth Challenge Program at the time. It is a voluntary program in 37 states that helps them get them high school degree, GED , or up to par so they can reenter school. You might want to check that out. We have met several kids that attended, and it's amazing.
Also, here is an article http://bit.ly/2cGHOqb that may help...it also includes phone numbers for counselors. I will pray for you! I know the fear and worry that goes with this situation! It is certainly a situation that needs to change before she gets hurt. I'm so sorry, it is so hard to parent teens today with all their access to everyone whenever they want... Hang in there...You are doing more right than you know!
