It's January here in MI. The streets and sidewalks are icy from melting snow, yet there isn't enough snow to sled. The mornings are dark and cold, and daylight is short-lived. When strollers and playgrounds aren't an option, how do you get some exercise for you and a not-quite-2-year-old?

Our house is set up so we actually can run around. I set up an obstacle coarse. It's gotten harder now that's she's 3. But we run (counting each lap) and jump over a rope laid on the floor, army crawl on the floor, jump three times to each side. Claps our hands. Re-lay races are great too! Get two baslet or plastic bowls, and they have to run and put a block in, or just a certain color of something. Course we just of the teenager a Wii dance game and get the whole family (even the toddler) to dance....works pretty well.

We are stationed in WA. it rains and rains. We started because it was part of her physucal therapy at 1 year old. But she loves it! It started as crawling over and around mom and over and under things. We would stand up and couch cruz' and bounce while I counted. Over the big stuffed dog, around it. Simple stuff. We also have one of the crawling tubes...which yes, I at 6'1" can army crawl through...which isn't easy by all means. But it helps. I still sing Peter pan's, "Following the leader song". It let's her know it's time to play.

Put on music and dance in the living room. I'm in MN so I totally understand not being able to go outside all the time.

@Meadow Young: How old was she when you started the obstacle course, and what was it like then?
