My boyfriend (babies dad) and I didn't want her to have a pacifier so we never introduced it.. She is now 6 weeks old and when trying to sleep or fussy she is constantly sucking on her hand, or likes having the bottle or my boob in her mouth. Not to mention she came out of the womb with a sore on her hand from sucking it inside.. I have started to give her the pacifier a little at these times, mainly because I'm so tired, but he doesn't want to introduce it at all! Should we continue giving it to her or are there other options besides letting her cry

We mainly didn't want to do it because of the look of the pacifier, and not wanting her to want it for a long time, braves was also a reason

Your daughter clearly has a very strong desire to suck. We didn't use pacifiers much when our kids were babies. They mostly sucked on my thumb or finger.

The benefit to using a pacifier is that you can take it away. If your child becomes a chronic thumb sucker into her preschool years that's a much harder habit to break.

Most kids don't become chronic, habitual pacifier users or thumb suckers though. Most kids will give it up on their own before they're two or three (or sooner). The desire to suck and to put things in their mouths is stronger in some babies than in others, and will last longer for some, but the vast majority of children do give it up on their own.

What exactly is the concern with giving her a pacifier?
